Cocaine Rehab Treatment Programme

Are you or a loved one suffering under the weight of a cocaine addiction? You don’t have to suffer in silence, or allow the addiction to worsen by the day. Primrose Lodge is a full-service facility, which offers cocaine dependency treatment for anyone who has a problem with this powerful and highly addictive drug.

We provide world-class addiction treatment, with a number of holistic therapies combined to deliver cost-effective options. Our facility is CQC-registered and staffed with fully trained and experienced professionals, who deliver round-the-clock care.

Counselling is a crucial aspect of successful addiction treatment; it goes beyond the physical problems associated with addiction to tackle the psychological issues as well. At Primrose Lodge, our experienced counsellors and psychotherapists will work with you to determine the root cause of your addiction and design a comprehensive therapy programme to help get you back on track.

You’ll undertake counselling in two primary settings: one-to-one and group therapy. Also known as ‘individual therapy’, one-to-one therapy comprises you and a counsellor alone in a private session. Group therapy, meanwhile, will include other patients as well. Each approach has its own benefits and enables patients to approach their recovery from different perspectives, allowing them both to explore their own experiences and to learn from those of others who have been down similar paths.

For treatment to progress smoothly, it’s essential for your system to be drained of all cocaine toxins. To expel every trace of the drug, you’ll need to undergo a process called drug detoxification (“detox”). Cocaine is a powerful drug and if you’ve been using it heavily, the detox process will likely be accompanied by highly uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms; although cocaine is not especially physically addictive, some physical symptoms may develop psychosomatically.

Withdrawal symptoms are your body’s way of reacting to the sudden change of not having enough cocaine in its system. Although there are no medications which can “cure” the unpleasant effects of withdrawal, some medicine may be prescribed to ameliorate some of the symptoms (though this will depend on a doctor’s assessment of your particular circumstances: every case is unique and there is no “one size fits all” approach to detox). Throughout the detox process, you’ll receive therapeutic support and 24/7 care, delivered by our fully trained clinical medical team.

If you would like to learn more about detox or any of our treatment options, call us today to speak with one of our addiction treatment experts.

Detox Timeline

The detox timeline for cocaine will differ from one individual to the next, but here is a rough guide to give you a general idea of what to expect.

  • 1-2 hours: Cocaine has a short half-life, so you might experience the onset of withdrawal, in terms of a craving to repeat or sustain the “high”, as soon as 60 minutes after your previous intake.
  • 1-2 days: As withdrawal begins in earnest, cravings will be intense and you will feel irritable and agitated, and possibly demonstrate aggression as your mood oscillates. You may also feel the onset of tremors and even muscle cramps.
  • 2-7 days: The worst withdrawal symptoms will manifest over this period. Sleep and dietary patterns will be extremely disturbed; although insomnia is common, you may experience nightmares when you do sleep. Muscle cramps and spasms, and possibly nausea, may strike at random. A profound depression and anhedonia (the inability to feel pleasure) may seize you, along with lethargy and a sense of hopelessness.
  • 7-14 days: Withdrawal symptoms will decline in severity, although cravings may still be intense. Your mood will stabilise, but depression may persist. If this – or any other symptoms – lasts beyond two weeks, you may have developed post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS) which could last months or even years, and may well require lengthy therapy and possible pharmaceutical treatment.

The initial detox and withdrawal phase is often not the end of withdrawal symptoms, as psychological symptoms can resurface much later. For instance, it’s possible for cravings to suddenly occur years after you’ve completed detox.

Detox is an important part of the recovery process, but it’s nowhere near the end of it. In order to fully recover, you’ll need to continue treatment with rehab. It’s during this phase of treatment that the psychological consequences of addiction will be dealt with.

At Primrose Lodge, we offer an intensive inpatient treatment programme that can run anywhere from a week to a month or more, depending on your specific requirements and the extent of your addiction. The 28-day programme is our most intensive and comprehensive, tailored to clients who are in need of thorough treatment.

Like our other programmes, the 28-day addiction treatment programme is based on a holistic approach, aimed at ensuring cocaine addiction is treated physically, mentally and spiritually. While your body suffers from the effects of the drug, your mind and spirit are not spared either.

Detox and Rehab Benefits

Detox and rehab may be undertaken on an inpatient or outpatient basis; however, an inpatient arrangement is often advised, because this is a more intensive option. If you’re still contemplating whether to get into rehab or not, here are some reasons why you should.

  • Round-the-clock care: withdrawal can be problematic, especially when you’re dealing with a drug as dangerous as cocaine. If you detox under medical supervision, you’re less likely to relapse and suffer potentially life-threatening symptoms.
  • Numerous therapy options: rehab centres like ours offer a good selection of treatment and therapy models.
  • Personalised treatment programme: at Primrose Lodge, you won’t get a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. Rather, you’ll have a treatment programme designed to suit your individual needs.

No free access to cocaine: once you’re in rehab, you will be away from your drug-taking environment and will be able to focus fully on your recovery without being in contact with suppliers.
